Theodoros Savopoulos was born in Kavala (a beautiful coastal city), in Northern Greece. His “formal” training involves Chemistry of Foods and an MBA, but he ended up designing the exquisite jewelry you’re going to see in this post!
I met Theodoros through I mutual friend and I found his work very interesting, so I thought I should share his work with you! Theodoros kindly sent me his interview published in Athens Insider Magazine (Issue 96), which you can also find here.
Inspiration & Influences
For Theodoros, getting inspired is something unexpected. After all, as Gabriel Garcia Marquez has said “Inspiration gives no warnings”. Nature on the other has surely influenced his creations. As a boy, Theodoros was immersed into the fascinating world of nature by his grandfather and next to him Theodoros became fasinated by insects, snails, shells, feathers, snake skins, goat horns and many more. So it’s not surprise to see snakes, horns and wings among his creations.
When creating a jewel, the gemstone comes first and that’s what prompts the design. For his creations, Theodoros uses first and foremost gemstones, as he finds them fascinating. He particularly adores black diamonds.
The beautiful pendant pictured above (top left) is made by a very large black diamond and Theodoros calls it “Eclipse”, as the reflection of light on the black diamond resembles very much a sun eclipse. The “Eclipse” pendant bears no relation to the Twilight Saga movie with the same name, though I pointed out to him that since he’s into skulls, and wings and such “mystical” elements, he should look into vampires as a possible source of inspiration. They’re all the rage after all!!
Theodoros finds gemstones inspirational and believes that each one has its own character and attitude. He also uses materials such as gold, silver, leather, wood and shells and is very concerned when combining materials, as not all of them match with each other.
Theodors has some very high profile clients such as Demi Moore, Michelle Rodriguez (pictured above right), Kanye West, Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr, Penelope Cruz (pictured above left) and Miley Cyrus to name but a few.
