{travel} My Favorite Greek Beaches

sea sun summer collage

For this month’s FTF Community blog event, I created firstly this collage with Greek beaches, sea shells, Blake Lively and Louis Vuitton resort collection. But I thought I wanted to do more…and since is summer, I thought of sharing with you my favorite Greek beaches. So here is goes…

Porto Katsiki Lefkada Greece

Porto Katsiki, Lefkada

Greece is famous for the Aegean Sea and islands like Mykonos and Santorini, but nothing can beat the color of the sea that the Ionian Islands (in Western Greece) have. Porto Katsiki is one of them. It’s not a large beach, and it takes sometime to get down there (it is far from the city and it also has some steps you have to go down to reach the beach), but this beautiful turquoise waters, totally worth it.

Elafonisos Panagia beach

Elafonisos

Elafonisos is a small island in Southern Greece off the coast of Peloponnese. I has 3 beaches: Simos, small Simos and Panagia. The photo is from Panagia (I liked it because it is “burned”), but all beaches are equally nice. Nice sand, crystal clear waters and you feel like you’re in paradise. No coconut trees unfortunately!

Agia Kyriaki Milos

Agia Kyriaki, Milos

Milos has so many different beaches that no other island has. Sarakiniko is full of white rocks and it feels out of this world. Kleftiko is approached only by boat and features caves you can swim through! My favorite one is Agia Kyriaki. It is a “normal” beach, but it’s long, sandy and the water has a nice color.

Kalo Livadi Mykonos GreeceKalo Livadi, Mykonos

Ah! The party island. You either love it or hate it! I personally love it and you can read all about it here. Mykonos has also many lovely beaches for all kind of people: you like to party? Then go to Super Paradise. You want to spot celebrities? Then Psarrou is for you. Maybe you like wind surfing? Then go to Ftelia. For me the ideal beach is Kalo Livadi. I’ve liked it since my first visit there in 1999. Surely many thing have changed: it is crowded and popular. But it’s sandy and I like the color of the water.

Faragas Paros Greece

Faragas, Paros

It sounds like an odd choice since it’s not a well known beach. Most people know Punda, which is the equivalent of Super Paradise (see above) and Santa Maria. But for me both Punda (which I didn’t like at all) and Santa Maria, are very “common”. Faragas has a different vibe. It’s located in the southern tip of Paros. It isn’t very crowded, it is sandy, the water is very clear and the beach bar plays all sort of music (an odd mix, but it’s fun)

I have other beaches I like, such as Varkiza near Athens (and much nearer to where I live), Arogi in Northern Greece (probably no one ever heard of it), Sidari in Corfu (very peculiar beach and unfortunately I have no photo) and a couple of beaches in Chalkidiki (again Northen Greece). But these 5 presented above are my top ones and I wanted to share them with you!

    • Glad you like! Greece has so many different places, beaches, islands for one to see…I hope you’ll be able to come again one day!

  1. From those 5 beaches I’ve only visited Elafonisos, and it’s truly amazing! I’ve visited both Elafonisos islands, there’s one more in Crete!
Few of my favourite beaches are Milia beach in Skopelos, Perivolos beach in Santorini, and many of Chalkidiki’s beaches. I’ve visited many islands on family vacations when I was little, and a few more later, but I can’t remember all the names from the beaches I liked.

    • I’ve never been to Elafonisos in Crete, but I’ve seen pictures and I know it’s awesome!! I’ve been in Milia in Skopelos…actually I stayed at a hotel there! Chalkidiki also has very nice beaches, but I’ve only been there once!

  2. I know for a fact that GREECE would be one of the places that I want to travel aside from Paris…I would love to see the beautiful beaches and their divine place…everything is magical and it looks like a paradise…I cannot think of other words but to say…this is an awesome place to have your vacation…pure relaxation…

all the beaches you’ve chosen to feature are stunning. i agree with you that nothing can beat the color of the water on the western greek islands. but really all the islands have their own beauty and charm and i love that you featured so many different ones!!

  4. I did visit Mykonos with my friends a few years back. And yes, we did got to Super Paradise. We were going from beach to beach, party to party. I have so many fun memories of that trip.

    • Well the water in the first beach is out of this world!!! but when the beach is full of people, you can’t bet that it’s clean!!!so it’s better to avoid high season…so you can enjoy the beach better!

  5. what a wonderful beach tour of Greece! This was a fantastic idea for this month’s theme! The first beach looks amazing, so serene! Wonderful photos my friend!! :)

    • Glad you like our beaches!!! Milos (the island where Agia Kyriaki is) has many beautiful beaches (and very versatile ones)!!!

  11. They look amazing!!
I would so like to go back to Greece once… I’ve been there with my parents twice but I was too young (11 and 14) to remember exactly the name of all the places… And I’ve never been to the islands! It has to be one of my next trips!

  13. Hi Ann my boyfriend and I really want to holiday in Greece this summer however there’s so many islands to choose from which would you recommend? Our requirements are nice sandy beach ( not rocky or fine stones) with crystal blue water in a romantic peaceful area so no clubbers paradise please. Cultural, the real Greece so dont want loads of english tourists! with nice restaurants and a few bars and beautiful scenery. I would love your feedback thanks. Jennifer
